Rare Nutrition, INC

In 2019, Missouri Western State University student, Mark Modlin, had an idea and a passion for nutrition. Modlin was looking for health foods that fit his lifestyle and because he couldn’t find those on the market, he decided to create his own. Modlin landed on the idea of Rare Nutrition, a company that would provide meal offerings that met the highest standards of nutritional value while not losing the great taste of the product itself.

Baking of Rare Nutrition Products

“Rare Nutrition came about simply because when I looked at the health food market, I realized that I could create something that not only tasted better, but had better nutritional value than other things I was seeing on store shelves,” said Modlin.

Modlin, Founder and CEO of Rare Nutrition, was joined by Matt Dougherty (Chief Operating Officer) and Clayton Speltz (Chairman of the Board) to make this idea come to life. They worked tirelessly on their brand, recipe and organization as a whole for the entirety of 2020. After nearly 3,000 trial runs, they had perfected their product. On October 5th, 2020, Rare Nutrition officially became incorporated.

“That was a defining moment for us, it felt like all the work was paying off and we were beginning to reap the benefits of the countless hours we dedicated to this idea,” said Modlin.

Rare Nutrition can soon be found in hospitals around the United States as an offering to both patients and visitors alike, giving them a unique option that fits the needs of their health concerns. They aim to allow healthcare providers to make a difference in the daily lives of recovering patients through their products.

Currently, the brand includes pancakes, muffins, chocolate cake and frosted donuts that have nutritional value that can hold it’s own among the competition. All of the products include a low sugar, low calorie, high protein recipe that makes for rapid recovery for its consumers.

Not only does Rare Nutrition offer some of the healthiest options amongst their competition, they also offer some of the lowest prices in their field. The average price of a patient or resident meal is around $3.00 (Soriant Solutions, 2019), but Rare Nutrition starts at just $0.55 per serving, making them an incredibly accessible option for healthcare providers.

“We wanted Rare Nutrition to be for everyone, because everyone deserves an option that tastes good while doing good for your body too,” said Dougherty.

In the future, Rare Nutrition looks to grow as much as possible and potentially dive directly into the consumer market, long-term care facilities and education facilities.
